Prof. Zafar Adeel is an internationally recognised expert in environmental science, water policy, and sustainable development, with more than 25 years of experience, including 18 years in senior roles within the United Nations system.

He previously served as Director of UNU-INWEH, the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health, and chaired UN-Water, bringing together nearly 60 UN agencies and international partners. He also co-chaired the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment work that contributed to the global desertification synthesis.
